Every time some new test arrives it mixes everything up. Judging by them I would have to change AV every few month to have best one according to those tests.

I look at the longer term trends..... None of these reviews are enough, by themselves, to get me to change my security methodology...

Yes, most of those at least 10 top ones are not changing their scores more than couple % and as you said, none are enough by themselves.

Well, I have to say I stick with Defender and here's why.

Some big omissions from all these tests are,

1/ 3rd party (as opposed to Windows Defender) security suites can often cause havoc when some compatibility issue arises (such as a Windows update etc). Think how often this is found to be a problem with "xyz security product" when suddenly files disappear and/or the system is rendered useless. Everyone is playing catch up and the cause of the problems were... the security product.

2/ Once you install a 3rd party software suite, how do you remove it fully ? Use the manufacturers removal tools (if they have one). Do it manually. Are you sure its all gone and that leftovers will not conflict with whatever you install next ?

No security software can be perfect but I've never been let down by either MSE or Defender.

Just have to balance needs and choices. You know those proverbs like "Eating a cake ......" and " Scrambling eggs...) ?
For instance: I'm using AVG and it does not let me use Restore Point but when temporarily disabled, no problem but I'd rather have that small inconvenience than reduced security. Not only that Defender does not have good reputation in ALL the tests but MS also doesn't have too much faith in it.

Most of these "AV testing" sites are usually biased and usually paid off by the AV company.

A reason why I don't trust them and use what I know works from experience, which is Windows Defender.
