Is svchost is a malware?

The free version of AVAST identified svchost.exe in C:\Windows\System32 as a malware, but some articles on internet state it is not a malware.

It can be a virus. Svchost is a legitimate MS file, unless it is an imposter. If it was flagged as malware, there is a possibility that it is either that or a false positive. What kind of malware did it state it was? The page link below contains a list of malware that impersonates svchost.

First, I would suggest submitting the file to VirusTotal to see what it makes of it.

Also would suggest you run a scan with Malwarebytes. The free version will do fine. Just uncheck the "start free trial" at the end of the installation. Do a full system scan & quarantine anything it finds.

The malware warming is a false positive on the part of AVAST, it pops up about 1 minute after the desktop is turned on.

This morning I ran a Malwarebyte and an AVAST full scan of the system, no infection or malware was detected.
