You should be able to delete the folder in a command prompt at boot if you like.

Folder - Delete from Command Prompt - Windows 7 Help Forums

If that doesn't help, then the free program Unlocker should help you delete it. :)

Hi Shawn. For once my question isn't about my own computer :dinesh:.

My partner uninstalled mcafee shortly after getting his laptop, but it seems it didn't uninstall cleanly. There are still mcafee folders in Program files and Program Files x86 and there are still some mcafee related entries in Task Manager.

Mcafee isn't listed in programs, and CCleaner doesn't find any registry entries related to mcafee.

We want to delete the folders but when we try (from an admin account) we get the following message:

access denied mcafee.PNG

Just wondering which would be the best option:

using the built in admin account, using a command prompt to delete them, or using something like Unlocker?

Or something completely different?

Mcafee tool worked a treat. Thanks Shawn (and Paul for endorsing this).

It was something of a surprise to see just how many things needed to be uninstalled. Yet another reason to consider avoiding an OEM OS install next time.

Some things to consider when getting a new computer, or helping someone with an older computer.

Two programs I find indispensable, when you want to be in control of your computer.

1. "Grant Admin Full Control" which allows you to right click on any file or folder and become the Owner of that thing.
If you "OWN" a file, you can delete that file. You can forget all that "you don't have permission...." BS.

2. The FREE version of "Revo Uninstaller". It not only deletes all files and folders for a program, but scans the registry and deletes all the related registry entries. I find it every bit as desirable as the Revo Uninstaller Pro.

McAfee? A real POS!

Thanks for the suggestions, @TechnoMage. I will definitely have a look at taking ownership of files and folders.

I have a program from IOBit that is a powerful uninstaller, presumably similar to Revo? But it never occurred to me to try it in this instance . (But then the problem wasn't on my machine, which is a pathetic excuse I know:D).

Acquiring Mcafee would not have been my choice, but that's (just part of) the downside of buying an OEM machine.

Yes, when you buy an OEM computer, you take it like they program it, with all the warts and wrinkles. :)

Then it's up to you, or a technician setting up the PC, to clean out all the Crapware that is installed at the factory.
Some of that stuff, can even be Spyware, like the "Wild Tangent Games". Get rid of those ASAP.

You can't believe, all the crapola that I take off of brand new PC's.
It's criminal, for PC makers to put that stuff on a brand new PC.

So, it's up to every Computer Tech, to de-crapify every PC they work on. Call it a public service!
It's what I do!

Happy Holidays Mates!
