Suddenly and without warning, I no longer have Internet Explorer with Google Search, I have AVG Secure Search provided by Yahoo Search. I did a complete system search for IE and it is nowhere to be found, how do I get it back?

When you install programs, always select Custom Install instead of Recommended. The software venders often sneak unwanted toolbars and make them default.

To uninstall AVG Secure Search see this:
Uninstall AVG Toolbar, home page and Secure Sear... | AVG

In IE click the Tools tab, Manage Add-ons and enable Google Search. Restart IE

Thanks Nuccii, but it remains a mystery

I had already tried your suggestion which unfortunately doesn't work. Neither AVG nor Internet Explorer appear in the list of programs. I searched the computer for AVG and IE. IE shows up in the search results, but when I click on it what comes up is the AVG Secure Search.

If AVG/Yahoo appears in the Start tab of Task Manager, disable it and reboot.

Task Manager

Opened Task Manager and neither AVG nor IE are in the list. I then clicked on the Big Blue E (which should open Internet Explorer) and it opened AVG/Yahoo. When I looked at Task Manager after clicking on IE, Internet Explorer then showed in the Apps list. Closed AVG/Yahoo and Internet Explorer disappeared from the Apps List.

The problem has been solved. We have a book called SECRET GUIDE TO COMPUTERS & TRICKY LIVING written by Russ Walter. Russ gives his phone number in New Hampshire and says to call him any time, so my husband called him. Here’s what Russ said to do . . . go to the address bar and type www.google.com, then go to Tools and click on Internet Options. On that page, under the General tab, was a box that showed the www.google.com entry. Below that was a box or button that said “Use Current.” Click on that button, and then on OK on the bottom of the page. Close everything, restart, click on the Internet Explorer “E” on the task bar, and everything returned to normal.

Thanks for your efforts in working on the solution . . . much appreciated!
