When I open my task manager, there is 13 chrome.exe running at the same time and I don't know why. Chrome is running even though I don't even have Google Chrome on this computer. I use Firefox. There is a lot of chrome.exe running when nothing is on either. My laptop is slowing because of this. I really need help to fix this.

Looks like the Chrome.exe virus. Do a full AV scan

I did a full scan with Norton. It did get rid of threatening files, but the chrome.exe is still there.

Can you post a screenshot of Task Manager showing the Chrome.exe?

- right click on the 'Status' header, choose 'Select columns' and add 'Command line', that may give you a better idea where the processes originate.
- then right click on each chrome.exe entry and choose 'Open file location' and investigate what you can delete from there.

Not one AV gets all the bugs. There is nothing that gets everything 100%. Indeed, some malware requires multiple tools to eradicate it completely, along with the other junk it may have introduced into the system.

Suggest you d/l & run a scan with Malwarebytes (the free version will work fine, uncheck the "start free trial" box when installation is done before launching.)

Also might be good idea to run AdwCleaner to check if any adware infiltrated the system.

Sysinternals makes an excellent process explorer that gives you the ability to find out in-depth information on a process, as well as a search online function for information on this process.

I have the same thing, it has been this way since I installed chrome. I think it is normal for chrome.

I think chrome runs a process for each tab and other processes besides. I have 5 tabs open and there are 20 chrome processes listed in task manager. I also have offline gmail, app launcher, and print services enabled, so chrome processes stay up even when the browser is "closed".

The OP doesn't have Chrome though. For sure you have one process per tab if you have installed Chrome. If you haven't installed it you definitely shouldn't. Like Borg said use process explorer to find it and then delete it.

Having a lot of chrome.exe open is not a virus.

In Fact chrome does that by default and also you will have a chrome.exe per addon you have enabled as well so disable all your addons and u will see quite a few less chrome.exe in task manager.

It also creates a new process chrome.exe per tab that you have open as well.

Guys, i gotta reply, so its like so: Extensions. Every extension runs in an own process, if you go ahead and uninstall all extensions you have in chrome, and disable flash/shockwave youll see that you only have 2-3 processes left that are nessesary :D
