Windows Defender keeps turning off

I was using Avast, and I suspected it might be causing me certain issues, so I uninstalled it, and presently I use Windows Defender for active protection, and Malwarebytes free edition for scans.

problem is that Defender periodically turns off, and then I get an error message, and I have to turn it back on again.

Any solutions out there?

Open Windows Defender and allow it to run an Update. That should solve the problem. You should also make sure all available Windows Updates have been installed.

I did use one, after seeing it recommended for this problem on utube, but I didn't do a reboot, out of laziness.
now that I did a reboot, so far so good, I hope it keeps, because it's the kind of problem that comes and goes.

I hope this solves the problem. I've seen this in the past when a AV isn't removed cleanly. It can cause all kinds of little glitches.

I'm guessing as a precaution you ran a scanner to be sure nothing is in your system. Suggest you run Malwarebytes as a precaution. It won't hurt & a it's a good scanner to add to your arsenal. The free version will work fine.
