Windows defender turned off

It says it's been turned off and it's not monitoring the computer, I can't turn it on either unless I'm not doing something right. McAfee internet security suite was on the laptop when I brought, is it because of that? Should I just remove it?

Is windows defender good security on it's own or do I need more than just that? I've downloaded malwarebytes anti-malware, is that any good?

thanks for any help, I'm slightly clueless when it comes to this..

Hello there,

In addition regarding your concern on Windows Defender, I wouldn't count on it. Avast Free Version of Anti-Virus is good, you may also keep Malwarebytes as it is an excellent anti-malware/spyware program.

Hope this helps. :)
