No antivirus is perfect, you have to be really careful and make sure you don't surf dangerously and download from risky sites, plus always keep every aspect of your machine totally up to date, including any parts you may not use, IE for example if you use another browser.

Look for suggestions as this help file I posted over at the McAfee Forums where I volunteer:

What antivrius do you use? And if you want you could download and install ad-aware free (Its great because it removes them to )
and run a scan after installing it. Most of the viruses will be detected. But you might have to re-install windows 8 after wiping the hard drive (that is a last resort though). Or go to Gems -> settings -> change pc settings -> General -> Factory restore.

Numerous articles about the subject, not sure which is best. I would recommend to backup files and do a complete reset. Then find a reputable AV protection, not MSE.

When you get a virus the only thing to do is backup your data and do a fresh reinstall of windows then run the update facility until no more updates are found. If I knew I had a virus I would not trust any software that said it was totally removed, you don't know what else has been planted on your system.
