Windows Firewall Settings

First off let me say that I'm a complete moron when it comes to firewall settings. I have no idea what I'm doing, haven't a clue about firewall "rules" and basically have to be directed. The only time I really messed with any firewall settings was YEARS ago when I was running the Look-n-Stop firewall and Someone posted the safest, yet workable settings. I passed all firewall tests I put it thru but I had no connectivity issues at all, it was perfect.
So I was wondering if anybody has had any luck doing the same with the Windows 8 firewall.

Thanks

I'm not sure what you are trying to accomplish here because the Win 8 firewall works just fine when set at default values. You can go here to test your firewall for open ports that may be subject to unsolicited intrusion:

Good luck.

I ALMOST passed the port scan but failed MISERABLY when I ran Leaktest.

Did you set the firewall back to defaults before starting the test or did you just test it with your current configuration? Do you have a router in between you computer and modem? OK, which ports were open and what were the specific results of the leak test?

Update: I downloaded and ran that GRC Leaktest executable and it is older than dirt. There are better leaktesters out there; however, the Window Firewall, set to default values, is not intended to monitor out bound traffic for rogue executables and/or rootkits that have been (unknowingly) installed on your computer. The Windows Firewall is primarily intended to block unsolicited probes for open ports (via an IP address query) and it does that job very well. Good luck.
