Can't install Comodo FW [Updated]

Hi guys,

in the 8.1 preview release I could install comodo FW by changing values in the registry entry, but in RTM it doesn't work. I can't even start installing, windows rejects any firewall installation.

Is anyone using 8.1 RTM and what FW are you using ?

I have successfully installed Privatefirewall which, according to these results on this link (Results and comments - www.matousec.com) is TOP3 firewall. It's free which is great, though the GUI is ugly.

Maybe someone will face the problem as I did and will find this thread useful.

You could try asking over on the Comodo forums, however I'm not sure whether you'll have much success. This was a reply by a mod yesterday:

Q: Can't be installed on Windows 8.1 pro RTM. When will be win 8.1 compatible?
A: I believe they are planning on adding this compatibility soon, but as I am not Comodo staff please do not quote me on that.

Although, I saw a Neowin article about a beta version (6.3.291162.2907 Beta) a few days ago, I wonder whether that has 8.1 RTM support?

Thanks for the answer. This link of Comodo Beta is dead but I will try to find it elsewhere. I will be waiting firewall suggestions from more people, maybe someone is using another firewall with no problems, so would be nice to know.

Ah yeah, the link's since been pulled. From what I can gather it wasn't supposed to be a beta release, but was an unstable (unofficial) test version.

Windows Firewall is not particularly user friendly. It's fine if you just want to block all incoming connections, but for those who like more control, particularly control of outbound connections, Comodo Firewall is much more user friendly and easy to configure.

These are exact reasons I want to install Comodo.

So far I have only managed to install "FortKnox Personal Firewall" without any problems. But it's not the best firewall available.
