Download Malwarebytes from a clean computer. Boot into safe mode no networking. Install and run it from there.

http://www.malwarebytes.org

To boot into Safe Mode , If you are at the Windows 8 login screen, simply choose restart and hold down the Shift key. You will arrive at the windows with options to troubleshoot your system from which you can select to boot in Safe Mode.

PUP = Potentially Unwanted Program, if I remember right.

These come in all shapes and sizes and the damage done can range from nothing to rendering your PC useless. I second the Malware Bytes suggestion above ^. Download it and update it fully before running a full system scan.

Also, what program/scanner picked up the virus? Rogue anti-viruses have become rampant throughout the malware world and try to trick you into thinking you have a virus when they are the actual threat.

PUP as said before means Potentialy Unwanted Program
They can be just an annoying toolbar on your browser, a FAKE PC Optimization program that could have snuck it's way in during some install, or something of that sort, again, the damage can range from nothing much to alot of damage, Many PUP virus's are a sort of Browser Hijacking, meaning that They can change you default search engine and Homepage.Other sorts are Spyware using up resources on your computer and your internet resources to log your actions and send them to the virus's owner. This can lead to many things, as you can imagine, that could cause serious damage to your personal life, not just the computer. I'd recommend running AdwCleaner from HERE, which can help remove quite a few differant kinds. After you'r finished, post the log in your reply as an attachment located at C:\ADWCleaner\AdwCleaner[Rn] (I beleive), then post us a pic of your currently installed programs so we can see what should be removed :) Also, does Malware bytes tell you the location of the virus?

did you do a full scan with malwarebytes? if not do a full scan because a quick scan only picks up pieces and not the whole computer.
Also download and install Superantispyware and run a full scan with that too
