WIN8 Security Pause

I have WIN7. I have a friend in Denmark that has WIN8. I sent him a program that I have been running for years on XP and WIN7 that has no viruses. He tries to run the install exe and gets some warning that Windows thinks the program is suspicious and refuses to run it. He tried to install it as Administrator but it does not allow that. He does get the Administrator rights on all other programs he has on WIN8. What is it that stops the program from running. He has Kaspersky and turned it off. He was told by someone that the WIN8 Defender is not active until his Kaspersky demo subscription has expired after 30 days. It has not expired yet. I have read that there is a Smart Screen on WIN8. Could it be the reason for giving the error? Can he disable it to install the program and if so how? He even turned the security slider all the way to 0. Thanks, Bob.

Hi,

Your problem description leaves a lot of room for guesswork (hint: screenshots and exact error messages help to eliminate it). I'd guess the program is blocked by SmartScreen.

In such a case, you can unblock this program by following Example A here. Note that I don't recommend turning it off completely, and neither I recommend turning off UAC.

Hi all. My friend in Denmark has given up on trying to install the program. He does not understand all of the aspects of WIN8 security and is afraid to "mess up" his computer. I really do thank all that answered my question. As far as posting a screenshot of the error his computer is in Danish. Let's close this thread. Best regards to all, Bob.
