Folks, if that blasted MacAfee can fight viruses as well as it fights Windows Defender, it is one great program. My new Windows 8 Spanish laptop had MacAfee installed, and even people who read Spanish couldn´t understand what it was saying. I have a subscription, but no one can find out how long it lasts.
Every site on the web told how to get to Defender, but when I tried it, MacAfee stopped me. I got into the program, and there is no procedure for shutting it down. I installed Win Patrol and de-activated MacAfee, and it kept running. But Win Patrol has a tab labelled ¨Recent." From there I was able to get "Delete on next start-up." That helped, but MacAfee wouldn´t give up.
I went to Add/Delete Programs, and it hollered all over the place, but it allowed me to delete MacAfee. Then a warning appeared, telling me to press the icon and Defender would turn on. I did, it did, and everything is working fine.
