Hi there i had Norton from Comcast installed when i first got win 8 then i had a few issues and a Microsoft tech direct connected to my pc and blamed it on Norton and removed it and then said i did not need it as windows 8 has antivirus and firewall. My question is why would he blame it on Norton and is Norton ok to use on windows 8 as i get it free. Or is he right do i not need it because i have windows security stuff.

Well, Norton doesn't have the best reputation. It's bloated, a resource hog, and a pain to remove from your system. Plus, you'll probably be nagged to pay for Norton later on.

My personal opinion, just stick with Windows Defender and Firewall.

Also, there is no "best" anti-virus software. But I suggest you don't pay for them because you don't need to; there are free alternatives that are just as good. In the end, it comes down to you. The thing is, Windows Defender is very convenient because it's free, updated constantly through Windows Update, and you won't even notice it running.
