A glorious day for me when MS released SE and now Defender with 8. It's caught any crap I've encountered.
    Yes Tony, agreed.

    Hi there
Why do W8 users even BOTHER with 3rd party AV software -- they are just redundant in W8 now. In any case comparative studies are totally useless since a virus could technically appear at ANTY TIME so all the statistics are essentially well out of date by the time they are published.

For home users the W8 security system built in to the kernel is more than enough -- and if you DO become infected it's 99.99% certain you've been accessing dubious websites, downloading software from torrents or just making basic stupid mistakes like opening email attachments from senders you don't know or downloading things like registry cleaners, system / driver scanners etc etc.

    3rd party

Would you consider Defender with Win native firewall and a router enough and drop MBAM?

I also use Secunia and File Hippo Update Checker they seem to function differently one for vulnerabilities and the other for being current. Macrium is my image program. As needed, I use Revo or Iobit to remove programs cleanly when they do not have an uninstaller. I use Ccleaner's 'Windows' only and the 'Startup' feature.

Would you keep or drop any of these as I would like to avoid 3rd party programs that are dangerous or harmful?

My level is not skillful so advice welcome.

    Thank you
