How to find antivirus programs help please

Hi,

I have been using Windows 8 for a couple of weeks now. Every now and then I get a pop up window that tells me I am running multiple antivirus programs and that this can affect the security and performance of my laptop. I have installed Bitdefender Antivirus Plus 2013 because I'd paid for this and used it on my old PC.

When I installed BD, it automatically uninstalled the supplied Norton stuff. I have also uninstalled Norton using Add or Remove Programs, Norton's own uninstall tool and I believe I've cleaned up the Registry using CCleaner (although I'm not absolutely certain what all the functions do with CCleaner).

I still get this pop up message which is worrying me. When I click on the message it then takes me to another window that prompts me to uninstall Bitdefender. But I don't want to do this, especially as I don't know what other security software is still on my laptop.

Windows Defender is turned off.

I have tried everything I can think of to try and find, somewhere on Win 8, where it tells me what antivirus software I am running but I can't find anything! Bitdefender tells me that it is running fine with no issues.

Where can I look on Win 8 to tell me what antivirus/spyware software is currently running? I have tried all the areas I can think of in the Control Panel but just can't find it. If I can find these programs, I may be able to remove whatever is causing this problem.

I have attached some screen prints if these are helpful. Any help or advice would be greatly appreciated...

Kind regards
Adam

Can you system restore back to before you installed BD? If yes, then do so and uninstall Norton using the uninstaller on the Norton website. Then, reinstall BD if you want.

Thanks for your suggestion but I don't really want to do that as I have installed a lot of software in the last couple of weeks and I'm not sure what effect that would have.

Is there no way of actually seeing what antivirus software I'm running in Windows 8?

Kind regards
Adam

Don't blame you, and you are very welcome. You can look at Task Manager > Processes > Apps. But, I think your system is going to require a fix beyond trashing files. You could look for old Norton Files in C: Program Files > Norton ....--assuming some type of Norton folder still is there. See if anything Norton shows up in Control Panel > Programs and Features.
