Now that message from Symantec is just irresponsible. Java, even continually updated persists in being a massive hole in computer security and whoever the antivirus/security vendor is, sometimes they can't keep up. I'm sticking with my original plan not to have Java on my new desktop, I can always run it on my laptops or old desktop. Most of the malware MSE blocked on my old desktop tried to install itself through exploits Java opened up. Update it constantly, disable it unless you're doing things online that require it and if you don't need it, uninstall it. Which is the best way to protect your computer from its latest issues.
