It comes with Windows Defender, an updated version of Microsoft Security Essentials. I haven't found any reason to remove that and install anything else.

Welcome to EightForums, mjb.

Windows 8 Defender is not like the Defender included with 7 where it was turned off when Security Essentials was installed. It's more like Security Essentials where it's now a full security suite. They call it Defender and is included with 8. Kind of confusing calling it Defender.

I hope that answers your question.

Does it have internet security too or not ?
No, it doesn't stop you from connecting to public wifi, it doesn't stop you from going to sites, it doesn't bog down the whole machine. It will take care of anything that you do manage to run across. IE has the phishing and site checking and certificate checking built into it if you want that. I find the new "Internet Security" apps are real big on "Look at all the stuff I protected you from" with lots of self congratulatory pats on the back. Come on, an alert for a "tracking cookie"? Just use some common sense, let Defender take care of any attacks, make backups and enjoy yourself.
