True. I was puzzled why defender would not open. Assuming the presence of KIS was putting it off but its not that now is it? Unless the original question was based on a similar situation, already having AV installed.

I agreed with you. I use KIS 2013 but was wondering why defender would not open for me. I assumed it was because KIS 2013 was already installed. But if the situation (first post) (not original question!!) is such that Defender will not open because of the others presence, then that explains it

Yes, defender will not run because KIS 2013 is installed and active. Hard to say if Defender turned itself off or if KIS disabled it. Either way the end result is the same, Defender is disabled so it won't interfere with KIS operation.
