Is there anyway I can install media player into Windows 8 N - didn't realise it doesn't have one.
Any help or suggestions would be appreciated.

Do you mean "Windows Media Player"? It should be a part of W8... Oh wait... xD You have 8 N = doesn't include Media Player. You can download Media Player from here: Get Windows Media Player - Microsoft Windows
The W7 version should work fine.

Thanks Danrex -- appreciate fast response! Unfortunately cannot install media player no matter how hard I try -- compatibility etc.
But did find a little media player -- FLV Player -- which does what I want it to do - just audio files into Dragon.
Am sure Microsoft will come up with a media pack soon.

Hi there

VLC will play any codec known to man or beast -- great little FREE media player - especially video. Also plays commercial ENCRYPTED DVD's too.

VideoLAN - Download official VLC media player for Windows

For Audio loads of other FREE one's -- Media monkey etc. I paid a small amount more for Winamp Pro --great for all my audio stuff.

Why on Earth would you want MS's attempt at a media player - WMP is basically an abomination -- and really who needs even WMC since all the TV streams you want are readily available all over the Internet -- you don't even need a TV tuner card any more.

If you really MUST have WMP download the "Non N" version -- same key as you've already got. If you are a TechNet subscriber you can reactivate again (keys are good for 10 activations).

Maybe we forgot that WMP for Windows 8 will NOT play DVD's anymore.

So adding it for the express purpose of playing DVD's won't do you any good anyway. :confused:

that's why I suggested downloading VLC. That DOES work. !!!!

There certainly isn't much point in using it when it can't even play a DVD anymore, nobody bothered to mentioned this at all so I figured it was a relevant point. :)

Is there another Media Player that will play Midi Files, VLC won't play midis. I have Win 8.1 and plan on updating to Win 10, when it becomes available, and WMC is going to be gone with Win 10

I too have VLC and it works great. But since I got Windows Media Center installed I dont use it as much. I might have it as default for video though, been a while.

VLC will not play midi files.

I have just bought the windows mag June 2015. On page 58/59 is 10 free media players:

1. VLC 2. GOM Media Player 3. SM PLayer 4. Zoom Player 5. KMPlayer 6. Easy -data player 7. Realplayer 8. Jetaudio 9. MPC Home cinema and 10. Foobar2000 - all are compatible with 8.1.
