Sound plays through both headphones and speakers

I have looked for hours over the Internet for my problem but I have not found a solution. Sound plays through both the headphones and speakers when I have the headphones plugged in. I want the audio to play only through the headphones when I have them plugged in. When I check my playback devices: http://i.imgur.com/WUhT1UF.png when the headphones are plugged in or not. When I disable the device no audio comes from the laptop. It says my Realtek HD Audio is up to date http://i.imgur.com/cSDUQFv.png. I am using Windows 8.1, 64-bit. Is there anyway to get the sound to only play through the headphones when I have them plugged in.

The Realtek HD Audio Manager, has options for either muting the speakers when a headset is plugged in or to not mute them.

What window is that? How do you get there? Searching "Device advanced settings" on my computer doesn't bring up anything and neither does "Realtek HD Audio Manager

The Realtek HD Audio Manager is on most PC's. There are a very few that came from PC manufactures with it disabled. On those, upgrading using the drivers direct from Realtek, usually adds it. Realtek

The Realtek HD Audio Manager is located in the Control Panel/Hardware and Sound. My Win 8.1 has been upgraded to Win 10 so I can't point you directly on how to access it.

This is what the Realtek HD Audio Manager looks like. The Device Advance Settings is where you access the speaker controls.

I don't know of another way to manage how the speakers and headphones act. You could contact HP and see if they know. I know Sony disables that function on some of their laptops but have not heard of that being disabled on a HP.
