Solved Suddenly no more Audio over HDMI

My computer was working fine until today when it stopped putting out any audio through HDMI connection to TV. My Samsung TV is still listed as default audio device, volume levels in the Mixer can be changed to whatever setting I like. When trying to playback a video using Windows Media Player, the volume bars seem to be fluctuating but there is no sound.
The TV by itself works fine. I think the problem is somewhere in software on the PC.
My Intel driver for the video/audio card is the latest available. What else can I do to fix this problem?
Thank you for sharing your expertise.

As you apparently have Intel HDMI audio, go to the Device Manager, Uninstall the Intel HD Audio, but DO NOT uninstall the drivers. Restart the PC and when Windows starts it will detect and reinstall the Intel audio. This may take care of it.

If that does not fix it, try a different HDMI cable.

I have Intel 4400 graphics but not sure whose HDMI audio. Tried the above but no improvement. The HDMI connected TV doesn't show up in playback devices. (pictures attached) There is Device cannot start error for the High Definition audio device in Device Manager.

The Code 10 says the drivers are not being installed and the reason you no longer have HDMI. That could be because the device has failed or that the drivers were corrupted and need to be downloaded and reinstalled.

Try the download/reinstall first. Go to Intel: Tablet, 2in1, Laptop, Desktop, Smartphone, Server, Embedded, install and run their Driver Update Utility. It should flag the needed drivers.

Thank you for your help in troubleshooting. Last night I unplugged the HDMI cable from TV and plugged it in this morning in a different HDMI port. Then I downloaded the latest Intel 4400 drivers from Intel web site and bingo, the computer recognizes the TV as a playback device and sound works.
On another note, getting warranty support from Dell has been a nightmare. They wouldn't provide me support because the computer is registered in someone else's name . They want me to provide them the previous owner's name and zip code before they would transfer registration to my name. This was an Open Box computer purchased from Best Buy. Best Buy wasn't helpful either because they do not keep records by system tag/serial number of who they sell a computer to and even if they had, they would not (rightfully) disclose customer information. I have hit the proverbial brick wall with Dell. Go figure!

I used to do a lot of on-line support on the Dell forum. Dell never has given support unless you are the registered with Dell owner. This is especially true with laptops due to the large number of stolen laptops.

But, you can get support on the Dell Community forums.

It's understandable for Dell not provide support to registered owners only. What is not reasonable is for them to require the new owner to find out who the retailer may have sold the system previously. A better solution would be for Best Buy (and other retailers who sell open box computers) to work with Dell (as its resellers) and help transfer ownership to new customer. A call to Best Buy customer service had me transferred to Geek Squad at the store where I had bought the computer. They in turn asked me to bring the computer in for them for send it to their repair center and wipe it clean in 10 days.
Dell must either work with its resellers to un-register returned items or provide new customers the ability to provide proof of purchase and thus transfer registration. Simply blocking them and not providing warranty support is not good business.

Its not Dell, its the reseller's. Best Buy should have contacted Dell and removed the original owner or transferred the unit to you.
Dell does not know if a unit has been returned, for example, unless the original user or in this case Best Buy contacts them.

I'm not siding with Dell, you can substitute any PC company for Dell and it would be the same.

Best Buy, in this case, left their customer "hanging".
