Solved Is it possible to boost the Stereo Mix recorder

Alright so, I have my Stereo Mix in my Recording Devices tab. I set the Level to 100 and tried to play some music out of my speakers. I had to put my speakers on volume level 30 to just get 1 bar. Pic:

Is there any way to boost the recording volume of my Stereo Mix? I don't want my speakers to be blasting what I'm listening to just to use this Audio Analyzer that I have.

Thanks for your potential help!

Exactly what are you trying to do? Your post isn't clear. I don't think the Stereo Mix does anything other than allow inputs (mic, line, internet or some audio program) to be heard. What level is heard is dependent on the source. If you look at the Mixer you should see the various sources and a separate volume control for each. I'm on Win 7 right now so I can't tell you exactly how to do it in Win 8. In Win 7, I click on the sound icon in the Notification area (lower right) and then click on Mixer to show what input devices are active and the volume control for each. I think if you go to the desktop in Win 8 its the same.

Here is mine (nothing active right now).

Well, what I'm trying to do is listen to music and use an Audio Analyzer cause they are really cool. However, I have to set my speakers really loud to get the analyzer to pick up any of the sounds. I don't know the technical uses for the Stereo Mix, but I do know it is used to record sounds on your computer. So, my question and reason I made this post was to find out if you can increase the Stereo Mix's output.

Think of it as a microphone. You should be able to increase the output without having to increase the input (ie. someone talking). Here are my levels: (The one on the left is my headset mic just for reference)

Since my Stereo Mix level is maxed out and I have to put my speakers on 30 to get only 1 bar, is there third party software or some kind of secret option that could do what I'm asking?

Thanks!
~Alex

The Stereo Mix "doesn't record", all it does is provide the audio so some other application can use it, including speakers, whatever other audio application, etc.

Does the analyzer you are using have any option for the display level?

I have a recording studio so I deal with audio daily. I have analyzers built into my recording program (Sonar) and it can control the levels. I don't use the internal PC's sound card for my recording studio. I have an audio editor program, Goldwave, that can act sort of as an analyzer and I can increase the signal level in Goldwave if the input is low.

What is the name of the Analyzer (assuming its software). If its an external hardware analyzer what is the brand/model?

Well, right. Stereo Mix doesn't record it, but it is used to record. But, I'll have to check out those programs. The Analyzer software I have is some freeware I found. It's pretty cool: Audio Analyzer | Miha Software

Sadly, it can't increase the input. It also has a weird capture source option, but it never works. I think it just uses the default recording device (since I was able to talk into my mic and could see the Analyzer work.
Thank you for your help, fireberd!

Did you put check marks on the advanced tab as shown ?:

NOTE: Some sound devices such as Sound Blaster call it: What You Hear, Others call it: Stereo Mix. They are the same.

I'm not sure what those check marks would do. I'm pretty sure they wouldn't increase the output of Stereo Mix.

I downloaded the Audio Analyzer.

Here is what I get with the default format playing an instrumental song with Windows Media Player.
Volume is set to "67" in the PC and about 1/4 volume in my speakers. Stereo Mix is set at 22.

Well then.. If your Stereo Mix is only set to 22 and you have that high of bars showing, going to 100 would be amazing. Can I have your Stereo Mix? xD

I appreciate your responses, fireberd. I'm going to just use Goldwave for now. I really like those visualizations. I guess my Stereo Mix isn't as strong or something. Too bad there isn't a third party boosting software.

Thanks again!

Well, screw the Stereo Mix! GoldWave is amazing! I love the waterfall visualization. Just gotta set the right Hz. Thank you so much fireberd.

Toodles!
