Thank for taking your time to read my situation.

This problem occurred to me yesterday when I purchased a new headset for my PC. When I got back home and tried to headset out it worked perfectly fine however later that day, when I tried to fix the wiring that was tangled up by taking out the headset from the jack, I plugged them back in only to see a the speakers option at the bottom right hand corner saying that "No speakers or headphones are plugged in". At this time I went and got my old headset and plugged that in however the same problem occurred.

I have looked at many ways to fix this problem however none work for me. Any solutions or advice would be very helpful!

I am running Windows 8.1 64-Bit

Some System Specs would help. Please fill in the "My System Specs". Without that we are guessing (e.g. is this a desktop or laptop?). Is the headset a USB connected or analog that connects to the headphone jack?

Filled in the some specs that don't go into full detail. Can also give a screenshot of my System from Control Panel. This is a Desktop running Windows 8.1 64-Bit and the headset I've been using and the current one all connect into the headphone jack.

Thanks for the system spec's.

First thing, do a "refresh" of the Realtek sound and see if that helps. Go to the Device Manager, RIGHT click on the Realtek sound entry and then LEFT click "Uninstall". DO NOT uninstall the drivers. Restart the PC and when Windows starts it will detect and reinstall the sound.

If that does not fix it, unplug the front panel audio from the motherboard (power off the PC first) then open the case and disconnect the audio plug. It may have "HD Audio" or "AC97" on the audio plug. Generally, that connection is on the lower left of the motherboard (but could be elsewhere). Power on and check.

I have updated my System Specs and I am using a Desktop. My current headset and my last headset were both connected with the Headphone Jack
Edit: Sorry for double post didn't realise I already posted!

The refresh did not work so I think I'll get my Dad to do the second option that you suggested.
Thank you for the help.
