Hello, if someone could help me solve this problem it would be fantastic.
About three weeks ago, my laptop froze so I switched it off and on. When it started back up, the audio was gone without a trace. Spotify tells me "There is a problem with my sound card". This has happened once or twice before a while back, but was always solved by just restarting my computer. This time that doesn't work. Realtek High Definition Audio is what I have, and my soundcard is built-in. Since this happened I've had so sound what so ever, and I've been using my phone for sound which is very inconvieniant. I need my sound back on my laptop for my studies.
I have tried almost everything I can think of. I have read many questions online from people who seem to be having the same problem as me, or a very similar problem, but all of their solutions which seem to work do not work for me.
I have tried doing a system restore, which failed. I have a HP laptop, and I even called both the Microsoft and HP helplines for assistance but to no avail. They didn't seem to know what the issue was, and said they would call me back but never did.
I'm not too tech savvy, so I don't know much about these kind of things but I have tried updating all the drivers, however Windows tells me that they are all up to date and working properly. However, sound isn't on anything, even YouTube videos which crash after a couple of seconds of playing.
I have tried restarting Windows Audio, which hasn't worked. I have tried the Command Prompt > sfc/scannow which seems to have worked for some people, but not me.
I have checked that everything is unmuted and the volume is up. When I try to troubleshoot for problems, nothing is found. When I try to test my speakers, I get a message saying "Error, Failed to play test tone." I've tried various other things that have been suggested online but they haven't worked.
I also sometimes get a message when I click on my speakers icon saying "Windows has detected audio enhancements causing problems" and it asks me if I would like to disable it. It's also worth mentioning that for a few weeks before this happened I was sometimes hearing slight crackling sounds through my speakers (and also through headphones) when listening to music but they would disappear quite quickly.
I'm really at a loss for what to do, and it's quite stressful when nothing seems to be fixing the problem. If you know how I could fix this problem, please help.
Thanks.
