Solved No Sound from Sub Woofer

My subwoofer won't emit any sound. I have it plugged into the correct port on my Mobo but still no luck. My PC is hooked up to a 42" (LCD) HDTV via HDMI so I do have sound coming through the television speakers but no bass emitting through the sub. The sub has a output on it so it can be used with satalite speakers but I dont have them hooked up because I dont need them. I hope that not having them hooked up is related to the problem. Can anyone offer any advice to assist me?
Thanks in advance.

Not sure how it works in conjunction with HDMI/TV, but with my computer speakers they have two leads that need to be plugged into the motherboard connections. Green (line out) and black (sub). Although in your pic it seems to have yellow/orange as sub, so I'm not sure why it's different (possibly country differences or motherboard differences).

Yeah I tried the yellow (sub) input jack but that didn't work either. I'm stumped....
Thanks for at least responding though.

When you use HDMI, Windows automatically changes the Default Audio Playback device from the "Speakers" (PC Sound card) to HDMI and thus you will not have any sound from the PC sound. Windows only allows one default audio playback device.

Thank you for the clarification.

Hi there

That actually shouldn't be a mega problem -- most cheaper Sub Woofer systems have the Sub Woofer connected via the Speaker system and not the main Computer. More expensive sound systems will have specific connections like 2.2 / 7.2 etc cinema systems. If your computer also has an Optical out then the Cinema amp will convert this into the analog sound streams for the speaker combinations (3/5/7.2 etc).

On your sub woofer there should be a cable which connects to the speaker system if the system is part of a set. If it's a separate sub woofer you'll need to connect via a separate sound card / amplifier.

Cheers

I think the source of the problem is clear. You cannot use HDMI sound output and speaker output at the same time. If you want to keep using HDMI for sound the only way how you will be able to make the subwoofer work is to connect the subwoofer to the tv (if there is a subwoofer output). If that's not possbile you will have to switch over to playback through the mainboards speaker output. But this would mean that would have to connect the satelites too in order to get decent playback. Otherwise the only thing you would hear is what the subwoofer emits.

Hi there

There might be another option here too.

Sometimes the HDMI device (in fact usually) will ALSO have at least a Headphone output. Plug that into the speaker system if the speakers are typical computer one's (external power driven). If you are REALLY lucky the HDMI device will also have an OPTICAL out - but then you need a separate amplifier to drive the sound.

Check the SOUND output of the HDMI device -- switch say to TV (if it has a built in tuner) and see if there's any sound output.

Ok, that worked! Plugging the sub (as well as the satellite speakers) into the TV's headphone output worked. I now have bass from my sub.
