Hi I was hoping someone could help me with this microphone issue. I just bought a new Dell xps 27 all in one desktop and have plugged an external microphone into the 3.5mm jack on the side of the computer and it does not get recognized. All drivers are up to date. Only the Realtek internal mic is visible. I have an older xps desktop as well and it is recognized and works fine there but it runs windows 7. Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated.

Doublecheck that you are plugging into the mic and not the headphone jack. This is not meant to be a wise guy, but something to check.

As this is new, it would be best to contact Dell support. If there is some problem, only Dell can get it corrected under warranty.

If you bought this direct from Dell, you could also call them and tell them you want to return it as it has problems. Most of the time they will offer to send you another new one in exchange rather than have to refund the money.
