No Audio

I have windows 8.1 and I have a red circle with a x in it attached to my speaker icon on thebottom right. I tried to have it self correct only for it to tell me “One or more audio service isn’t running … Not fixed” I found the “Windows Audio” not running although it is still set to automatic.

I tried to start “Windows Audio” service and got the warning for Services then under that (yellow triangle with exclamation point) saying“Windows could not start the Windows Audio Service on local computer” and under that “Error 1079: The Account specified for this service is different from the account specified for the other services running in the same process.”

I have tried several fixes in this forum for audio problems but none seem to work. So how do I correct this so I can get my audio back to working?

Has this ever worked?

First, since you are using a separate sound card (an old SoundBlaster), make sure your integrated sound (on the motherboard) is disabled in the BIOS so it does not conflict.

Second, reinstall the SoundBlaster Win 8.1 drivers (if there are any). If no 8.1 drivers try the Win 7 drivers.

Third if the drivers do not fix it, with the PC powered off, reseat (unplug then plug back in) the SoundBlaster card then power on and see if that helps. Seating has been a problem with some SoundBlaster cards.

I had a similar problem. I performed all the steps suggested above and the speakers started to work but at considerably lower volume.
Is there some other solution that may solve the lower volume problem?
