Manage Audio Devices won't pop-up?

So I always switch between my headset and my speakers for sound feedback on my computer, so what I do is I right click on the sound symbol at the bottom right and click on "playback devices" now this should normally have a window that pops up with my audio devices that I can switch in between and set which one is my default sound device. Now what is happening is nothing at all.. for a split second it shows a loading mouse cursor as if it should actually be doing a process of opening up my audio devices, but nothing appears. Now I tried searching my computer via the windows 8 option and clicking on "manage audio devices" but when I click on it, once again nothing appears. This issue is quite aggravating as I have no idea what is going on and when I check my task manager I don't see any window that is currently running.

If you have a System Restore point you can try restoring back to a date when it worked correctly.

What sound device and driver do you have? You haven't filled in the "My System Specs" so we do not know what we are dealing with.
