Dolby home theatre

Since upgrading to Win 8.1 (from 7) I cannot get Dolby Home Theatre to load
The sound card is part of the Gigabyte GA-X58A-UD3R Revision 2 motherboard -
Realtek ALC889 codec
 High Definition Audio
 2/4/5.1/7.1-channel
 Support for Dolby® Home Theater

I have tried loading the Realtek High Definition Audio driver 3.77 R2.72 which seems to install OK but when I then try installing the Dolby home theatre 4 GUI package it fails with a message saying PCEE needs to be installed.

Help appreciated, thanks

Did it come with the computer? On my laptop I have found that I have to use the Realtek drivers supplied by the manufacturer or else DHT breaks. I think they put some additional code in to interface with the Dolby.

Also, I am not quite sure why I have 4 high definition audio devices ?

Do they also have a Realtek driver on their site or is it a combined driver with both the Realtek and DHT? I would start from scratch and delete those multiple instances of HD audio then reboot and install whatever is on the Gigabyte site. As long as it is 8.1 compatible of course.

Wish I knew. Never seen that many HD Audio Devices showing up. You don't have any other audio hardware or some kind of virtual audio device installed? Could it be due to that TV capture device? Have you tried removing/uninstalling it? Maybe the Life Cam also.

Sorry, I'll have to concede to someone else who may jump in with other ideas. :(

There are no specfific Windows 8 driver downloads for the Gigabyte GA-X58A-UD3R rev. 2 board on the Gigabyte web site. Latest OS supported for that board was Windows 7 and the specific Realtek audio driver for that board seems to be 5.10.0.6642 / 6.0.1.6662 posted 10/25/2012.

Before upgrading from Windows 7 to Windows 8.x, you should have removed both the Realtek audio driver and the Dolby Home Theater software. Then after the upgrade to Windows 8.x re-install both Realtek audio driver and then the Dolby Home Theater software. Seems like those two get lost during the upgrade on some systems. Remember, Realtek audio driver should be installed first, then reboot and install Dolby Home Theater afterwards.

Open the Sound control panel and check which audio device is the Default Device. If realtek high definition audio is not the default device, right-click on it and select "Set as default device".

Thanks for the link, I seem to have installed the drivers OK but still no home theater as it was in '7......
if I click the Dolby tab of speakers properties I have the option of attachment 1, in '7 it looked like attachment 2
