The other day I turned on my computer and my audio would not play. A small icon that resembles when the volume is muted is permanently displayed. When clicked, a window titled: "Playing Audio" opens and tries to troubleshoot the issue. It comes up with the following:

Problem found:

One or more audio services isn't running. Not fixed

Both the Windows Audio and the Windows Audio End Point Builder services must be running for audio to work correctly. At least one of these services isn't running.

:
Check audio device. Issue not present
My computer is a Sony Vaio, model number SVS1512DCXB.
All important original drivers and applications can be found here.

In case you can't retrieve any information on my computer, important information is as follows:

  • 64-bit Operating System
  • 12 GB RAM
  • Windows 8.1
Under my device manager, for Sound, Video, and Game Controllers:
  • Intel(R) Display Audio
  • Realtek High Definition Audio

My question to this forum is where to go from here? I've already downloaded both the Realtek, but when I ran the program, it threw an Error message saying "Install Realtek Audio Driver Failure! Error -0001"

I'm not sure how to fix this problem, and am looking for advice on what to try next.

Damn, over 415 views and yet not one response. Can someone tell me what I'm missing to get some help or feedback?

jprivate, I'm experiencing the exact same issue. I've googled tons of stuff, but nothing is working. Checked audio services, tried to look at Windows updates, but in addtion to the audio services not running Windows 8.1 Pro lags like hell and will not list the updates. I was wanting to delete some of the latest patches. IE11 also lag like hell and freezes.
