Hello i have a windows 8 laptop and today the sound just stopped working. The windows audio service will not enable and everytime i try to enable it fails due to a duplicate in"Windows Audio Endpoint Builder.

Now tricky part is i cant open control pannel as it doesnt load, i tried reinstalling windows 8 but it also not load. This all was working perfectly just earlier today. I really need some help as i have no sound, just an x by the sound. Thanks

I have the same issue. Just happened to me two days ago. I've been googling things like mad and trying all kinds of things.

1. Checked services...
2. Tried to check the list of Windows updates to see if I can remove one by one to see if that helps, but Windows Updates freezes while trying to load the list of updates.
3. Uninstalled AVG antivirus as I read somewhere that after a windows update AVG put a file in the virus vault and once the user uninstall AVG and reinstalled it fixed it. Didn't work for me.
4. Tried the "simply turn up your volume and it should go away trick" that didn't work.

I just did a PC refresh and it fixed my audio and Windows lag problems. Word of caution, it will save your files, but no your apps. If you do a refresh it will provide a list on your desktop of the apps it uninstalled.
