Hello,
Everything was ok with sound but now the computer doesn't detect any sound devices like amplifier, headphones, speakers, etc. The computer does find the audio card, but not devices. Please help.

Try rolling back the driver. Sounds like a bad driver update to me.

Could it be that the audio card is damaged but the computer doesn't understand it? Is there a way to check if the card isn't broken?

The only way i can think of checking it would be to install it in another PC and see if it works...

Just to clarify... We are talking about a PCI or PCI-E card right? not onboard?

Another thing ive seen happen is when its the wrong driver.. The PC thinks it recognizes it and all is ok but simply does not work.. I had this problem with LAN cards a while back.

If it's an PCI/PCIex card check BIOS if on board sound is disabled, if integrated, check BIOS anyway to see if it is activated.

The audio device is probably disabled. Not the device itself but the driver side of things. In this case the device still shows up but will say there are no audio devices.
Not sure how on Win 8 but you need to go to the sounds and select show disabled devices
