First, establish if the TV has a PC audio input.

The VGA connector will only display the video, not sound.

For sound, run an audio cable from the headphone output of the laptop to the PC audio input on the TV. On the TV, switch to the PC input as the Source.

The HD TV I have (a Vizio) will not let me select both a separate Video, such as DVI, and a separate audio at the same time. That may be the case with this one, too.

Run a separate audio cable, as suggested, and then check the TV to see if its possible to select separate (different) video and audio connections.

If the TV has a VGA input then it most likely will have an AUX for PC sound. Look at the picture.

Well, if you don't have sound plugged in from the laptop to the TV, you should hear the sound coming out of the laptop speakers first.

Also make sure you're plugged into the headphone jack and not the mic/line in jack. If you can't hear audio from laptop speakers, try headphones. If that doesn't work, you need to look into your PC first before you mess with the TV.
