Does the headsets work OK? It may just be the way HP has these set up and nothing actually wrong.

yes, and no.

Sound is Ok, but it affects the behavior of Skype, I can't use it skype, as it think it a speaker and start ringing in it. With LX-3000 it Skype used to use Laptop speaker for ringing and headphone for conversation.

I don't know how you would change it. It looks like a function of the HP driver for the USB headset.

I remember, in Windows XP or earlier you had the option to choose what type of audio device is connected. Headphone or speaker.

Now without any reason, it is recognizing it as a headset  So there must be some way to change that.

I bought a set of Skype headphones, really excellent quality, but do not plug them in until required, rest of sound is fine.
