HD audio driver not working properly

In my HP Compaq Presario V3000 Laptop with Windows 8.1(32 bit) version, when I play a video such as Youtube, I do not receive any audio although video is played.But Device manager shows the message for 'Sound audio contoller' as 'HD audio driver working properly'. But if I disable Sound/Video Controller and then enable it, the audio comes back properly. But my problem is that every time I open the computer, I have to do this exercise if I wish to watch aan audio/video bit! Pl advise.

If the sound problem is ONLY with YouTube, install the latest Adobe Flash player and see if that fixes it. YouTube uses the Adobe Flash and it has been known to cause the problem you have.

Thank you, Fireberd. The problem is not exclusive to YouTube, but concerns all audio files too. I have this problem from the time I started using Windows 8 and now it continues with 8.1 too!

This is an old PC, and only supported up to Vista by HP. Windows 8.1 is having some audio issues with many systems, that worked OK with Windows 8. Have you tried installing the Vista driver in a Vista compatibility mode?

I have a recording studio and had to update the Roland drivers for my recording interface unit to be Windows 8.1 compatible, the previous driver which supported Windows 8 was not compatible.
