I'm having an issue with my sound. Before I installed windows 8.1 the sound had a moderate amount of bass, after I installed it, the bass reduced by a large ammount. The sound on windows 8.1 sounds awful compared to pre-windows 8.1. Is there any way to fix this?

Thanks,
-Rick

Your sound settings may have been reset. You can go to the sound properties to adjust them.

Perfectly fine on my laptop, which also has not changed anything, laptop was upgraded from preview 8.1, which was upgraded from win8. the desktop is acting like it's using a low frequency filter to clamp for small satellites and sending the bass to a sub...out in never never land as it's running in stereo mode, and in 5.1 my sub doesn't get proper bass either.

I have tried reinstalling the driver, 5 times, 3 different versions, all the same.

I am having the same problem. Not sure if I have windows 8 or 8.1 but there is no bass and its AWFUL!!! I have fiddled with all of the volume control options and there is no bass options anywhere. It is definitely not my speakers that I have plugged into the audio jack either. Please help ...this is my nightmare

I've discovered a way to get the bass back to it's former glory!

Control Panel > Hardware and Sound > Sound > Click on the playback device you use > Properties > Advanced > Under 'Default Format' select any '24 bit' option (I'm using '24 bit, 192000 Hz (Studio Quality) and it sounds fantastic!)

This was such a relief for me so I can continue my mixing without it sounding terrible. Especially since it's mostly House/EDM/Dance music.

Hope this helps! Was so happy when I found this out! :D

I had absolutely 0 bass and then I right clicked on the speaker icon > Sounds > Playback > Click on the speakers and then click Properties > Advanced > Uncheck the 'Enable Audio Enhancements' box and now my bass is working perfect.

Hi.

I just registered to thank you, Glenuth. Honestly, I love you.

My case was somewhat similar. Seems to be a problem with Windows updates from a version to another. In my case, I updated from 8.1 to 10, and after a lot of rage due a lot of problems that resolved themselfs after like 10 restarts, I tried to listen some music, then I noticed this thing. I tried my headphones in my phone first, since they are a bit old but the problem wasn't there. I tried updating all my drivers from the Hp page, Amd page, Realtek page (btw, I think it's a very good option to download the 8/8.1/10 version of the drivers) and Windows page, but nothing. Since I record with my Pc and Im a audio-freak, this was totally offensive. I had been since yesterday's afternoon trying to fix that issue, and your's worked perfectly. I do notice a bit of less quality than when I had 8.1, but it's way better now than it was an hour ago.

Dude, srsly, I love you.
