Cannot record sound from websites

HELP!
I have tried to record from a website with both Audacity and WavePad, but they can only record via the speakers, and of course this is not what I want - so how can I record directly??

I may have some good new for you. Older versions of Audacity (v2.03) and earlier required a loopback cable to record streaming audio; however, Audacity v2.04 has added some new options that work perfectly without that cable. I just tested v2.04 portable and it worked like a charm recording (non-copyrighted) streaming audio from a website. You can download v2.04 here:

And set you options like so and test:

I was getting more and more desperate and had asked in almost all fora on the internet, so THANKS a lot.
But I dont uinderstand it, for I have earlier used earlier versions of Audacity without problems.

But now I got the next problem. Where do I adjust the record level

Sorry I'm late with this reply but I wouldn't try to adjust the record level during recording because if it is too low, you may introduce distortion by increasing the amplitude. Conversely, if it is too high, you can always go back and adjust the levels in Audacity after the recording is completed. Same for too low but increasing amplitude may lead to distortion. For a quick adjustment the "normalize" option on the "effects" menu will adjust the recording levels to standard listening levels. Also note there are many other options to make adjustments to your previously recorded music or voice.

Thanks for your answer. I agree with you, mostly, but sometimes it looks like the recording level is too high, and then normalize will not improve the distortion. But do you think that I can trust the automate level?

So, I just did a test and I do agree that the recording levels do not seem to be accurate because they look substantially higher in a recorded version of the same song. However, even though I can see the difference on the graph, I cannot hear any (noticeable) difference in the volume levels; although the audible difference will not be discernable when you are talking about 0.5db. Also, that normalize will not work unless peak amplitudes are reached so I sort of misguided you in my previous recommendation. Now, there may be others ways of doing it within Audacity but I have reach the limits of my knowledge here so I would suggest you download their help manual and/or play around a bit to see what you can figure out. I really tried to help you but I am at the end of my experience level with Audacity because I just use it on an infrequent basis. Good luck and please consider marking this thread as solved.



The image shows the original and recorded levels together. Again, it looks like a big difference but it really isn't.
