Why does my microphone work better on my laptop?

I just got myself a brand new PC with Windows 8.
My problem is getting my mic to work the same way it did with my laptop with windows 7 64 bit (Worked perfectly, microphone level at 47 and boost at 10db).
I've tried everything, and even with microphone level at 100 and boost to 30db its just alot of background noise and still low volume.
Disabled everything on the enhancement tab, and i've tried everything on the other forums. And yes, i've updated my Realtek drivers to the lastest version. So i'm down to maybe something with the motherboard, or bios?

Really need your help guys, i use Skype daily, and now its not working!

You might have a loose connection between the mic jack and the rear panel of the MB. Can you try to connect from the front panel ?

No PC spec's. We are just guessing and have no idea what we are dealing with.

One comment on the RealTek drivers. The PC vendor's drivers, in most cases, are the preferred drivers. If you updated them to the generic drivers from RealTek, I would suggest going back to the PC vendor's driver. Even the RealTek site has a statement to use the Vendor drivers, even though they make drivers available.

Otherwise, since it is a new PC, the PC vendor's support would be the place to start. If there is some hardware issue, the PC vendor is the only one that can get it corrected under warranty.
