No Sound on Windows 8

Hello!

I have a Toshiba laptop running windows 8.1 and the issue that Im facing is that suddenly sound stops working, most likely when playing youtube videos. This is what I've done so far:

Reinstalling drivers (microsoft, realtek, conexant)
Upgraded to 8.1 (I had this issue as after a few weeks I installed windows 8, never happened on 7)
HDMI and headphones outputs are working just fine.

When I was on windows 8 I could make the speakers work by just clicking on disable and re-enable from the sound properties, If I disabled the microphone the speakers started to work again which I have no idea why that used to happen. Now on 8.1 the only way to make them work is by closing the lid or restarting the laptop which is pretty annoying.

These are the current (default settings) I have played with them but nothing fix the issue.

Hi mbl2592,

As we all know, 8.1 can be buggy in the sound area but since you also had this problem with 8.0, I will start off by offering a few screenshots of my 8.1 (Lenovo) laptop sound configuration. Of specific interest would be that I did not have to install the Realtek sound drivers to get mine to work as Win 8.1 auto found a compatible driver. Also, I did update my AMD graphics driver which included the HDMI audio installation. So, as this point, just take a peek and see if you find any differences:

Its not my desktop its a CQ50=142us Laptop with issues tried every driver I could find even changed the Group policy so it should warn of a none signed digital driver. Installed drivers many times and tried many different versions. When I first tried 8 I had sound. Conexant is the sound chip Smart audio 221. Sound is just an issue and the company who makes chip is in chapter 11 so google states.
Hi Sandman,

According to your mobo specs, you have a VIA Audio 1708S chipset:

P5Q PRO Turbo - Motherboards - ASUS

Now, ASUS does not appear to offer any Win 8 audio drivers for your mobo but I have found they are available directly from VIA, for both Windows 8 x32 and x64. They may work on 8.1 as well. See here and good luck.

VIA Drivers Download - VIA Technologies, Inc.
not the desktop its my 2nd Laptop.
