I'm using Windows 8. I disabled my surround sound headphones (with mic on headset) by going into properties and selecting "Don't use this device (Disable)", in an effort to fix the background static noise I was getting because every time I took them out and plugged them back in, I got a different result.

I need to re enable the device now to use the headphones but I don't know what to do anymore. I tried taking the headphones out and plugging them back in to see if it would recognize them again, but it's as if they don't exist. I also went to the control panel, device manager and tried to add new device--- it did not detect any headphones. I'm going out of my mind, can someone point me in the right direction? My headphones are quite expensive, don't want to have to buy new ones!

Thanx in advance.

Hello,

Type "sound" into the search box. look at the search results and click "change sound card settings." Hopefully, you'll be able to enable your headphones in that view. Good luck.
