Sound drivers for Dell Dimension 8400?

I have installed Windows 8 on my older computer, Dell Dimension 8400. Everything worked except my sound drivers. I checked the website and there were 2 available downloads for sound drivers. I downloaded both. One said incorrect hardware, so I assumed that that wasn't right driver. I tried the other, and first it said Wrong OS, so I ran it in recommended compatibility, then it said Incorrect hardware. So both drivers must be incompatible? But when I had windows XP before, it worked perfectly. Not sure why it doesn't now. I also tried using the driver searcher thingy. It was searching for like an hour, and when I tried to stop it, it wouldn't close. I had to force close it, and it found nothing.

Does anyone know how to resolve this problem? If so, please help me!:think::cry:

did you insure they said for windows 7, and were for your machine? some machines from dell may have different drivers depending on the configureation of machine even if said machine has multiple OSs that were shipped with it, the hard ware its self may be slightly different example sound blaster hardware (creative) may have shipped with your Dell 8400 with XP but the machine with windows 7 may have been shipped with audio audigy (made up for this example) hardware so the drivers may be different in respects to that, or it could be generic intel driver(s) (i don't think intel makes sound cards but i could be wrong...

if you know the manufacture of the hardware components (say creative/sound blaster) i would go to the manufactures website and download the proper/appropriate drivers for the hardware on the windows 7 platform...

The drivers were for Windows XP, so I don't know if they are compatible. I'll try going to the websites and manually downloading the drivers.

The Dell Dimension 8400 has a Creative Sound Blaster Audigy 2 according to cnet reviews.
Try this driver.

If it doesn't work try compatibility mode.
