Hi,
I have a HCL laptop with Windows 8 Pro x86 installed. Whenever I connect my headphones I don't get any sound from it. I have gone to my "Playback Devices" and selected "Show Disabled Devices" and the headphones are not listed there. What can I do to work around this problem ? I need my headphones to play sound. Should I update my audio driver? I upgraded my laptop from Windows 7 to Windows 8 with migrating all my settings. I am using VIA HD Audio Deck as my default sound driver. Thanks.

Check with the PC vendor for any drivers. The PC vendor's drivers are the preferred drivers. Drivers from other sources may or may not work correctly.

However, since up upgraded, Windows may have installed the generic basic function HD Audio Codec drivers, either alone or in addition to the VIA audio drivers. If this is the case, the HD Audio Codec drivers could be conflicting and cause problems. Go to the Device Manager and Display what Audio Devices are listed. The VIA should be listed and if you have HDMI audio that will be listed. If the HD Audio Codec is listed, Right click on the entry and then Left click "Uninstall". Restart the PC and check for headphone operation.

Thanks I guess what you mentioned about generic audio drivers were correct I just had to update my VIA HD Audio Deck drivers, now everything works fine. Thanks.
