Static on both my Xonar DG and Nvidia GTX460, need help.

So I recently installed Windows 8 and I am getting Static out of both my GPU and my dedicated audio card, I tried reinstalling the drivers multiple times with no luck, I also tried the unified Xonar drivers with no luck. I would think it was my card or speakers but its affecting the GPU sound also and I tried multiple speakers/headphones on both, I am pretty confused about this, it seems to happen more when the hard drive is accessed(In games, heavy MKV files, etc...loading of applications while listening to music or just scrolling on a webpage at times).

I remember this happening with my HDMI(460 card) on Windows 7 but it suddenly went away one day a couple weeks after install...so I forgot about it, my Xonar never had this issue. I use both sound sources(One for my TV, the other for my main computer) so I would love a fix for both really.

I am kinda an Audiophile and honestly this is keeping me from enjoying anything

Any ideas?

As both are doing it, this suggests something other than the actual hardware audio or video cards.

Assuming you don't have wi-fi on the desktop (that is a known source of noise), a shared IRQ, for example on the sound, would be one possibility. One thing to try with the Xonar, go to the Device Manager, RIGHT click on the entry for the Xonar and then LEFT click "uninstall". Then restart the PC and when Windows starts it will detect and reinstall it. Sometimes this puts the sound on a different shared IRQ and if that was the problem could fix that.

I have a computer based recording studio, so I'm always on guard for sound issues.

Do I uninstall all of the ones that say Xonar? Or just Speakers?

The Device Manager is where you uninstall the Xonar

Go to the Desktop and then hold the Windows key down and press the Pause/Break Key. This will bring up the System Panel. The Device Manager is listed at the upper left of this panel.

Here is the picture of my Device Manager/Sound. I have RealTek sound, yours should show your Xonar and Video Card's sound (mine is ATI).

Yes, I would uninstall them all and then let Windows reinstall it on boot up. When You Uninstall, DO NOT check the box to also uninstall the drivers (on both the Xonar and NVIDIA).

One other thing I see is a Webcam. These have been known to cause sound issues. Disconnect the webcam and see if that makes a difference.

Did you leave the webcam disconnected?

Also, disable the HDMI audio in the Device Manager, see what that does.

My old recording studio system was a Q6600 (with an Intel Motherboard) and I never had any problems in Vista 64 bit or Win 7 64bit with it. I had an ATI Radeon HD4850 video card. I had an NVIDIA GTS450 video card but it didn't work as well as the ATI.

Some other thoughts. With the PC powered off, reseat (unplug then plug back in) the Xonar and see if that helps. Also, if your motherboard has an on-board audio chip, make sure its disabled in the BIOS. And, if you have on-board audio, for testing, physically remove the Xonar and enable it in the BIOS and use it to see if you get the same noise.

I'm not a fan of the Xonar sound cards, I've seen some flakey problems on the Win 7 forum with them.

I tried all of that, still nothing, not sure what it could be, or why and how both sound sources are effected.

I disabled the on board long ago when I got the Xonar, still says it disabled.

My Xonar D2 works fine using the drivers from the Asus site. Never had a problem with it, in fact I tested several different sound cards and sent them all back but this one.

If you want to see flaky problems try using a creative card.

I really have no idea where this static might be coming from but power supply's have been known to make a buzzing noise from time to time.

You mean the power supply effecting the headphones speakers somehow? Anything I would be able to do to test for that?
