Solved No Sound

Hello,

I installed Win8 Ent Edition on my PC on new Partition (100 GB) Installation was fine and everything worked as charm except the AUDIO . I could not hear anything from my PC. I checked the DeviceManager but there is no Problem shown (yellow exclamation mark) and everything looks properly installed and working..

Win 8 installed drivers automatically but they do not suggest the name provided by the manufactures (ADI AD1986A SoundMAX High Definition Audio)

And one more query.. why my Win 8 Device manager shows AUDIO/SOUND devices twice ? (screen attached)

Does your MB have a built in sound ? if so you need to disable it from the BIOS, otherwise it will show up in device manager in addition to your sound card.

Windows 8 installed the default sound driver, you need to go to ASUS website, download the sound driver for your sound card then install it.

Manufacturers will not yet have drivers for Windows 8 but you can download driver for Windows 7 instead, most driver will work with Windows 8

Toshiba has full support and even an upgrade utility for windows 8. ^^ the only company i think that has an entirely free utility tool to help upgrade.

one more thing I noticed in devicemanager was Win8 installed drivers for SPDIF output...(there is one out connector on back panel) but im not sure how can I connect my existing speakers/headphones (3.5mm stereo jack) to that output...

Hello Inwell,

Could you give some more detail to your solution? Which site did you download the drivers from and the steps for the successful install of the drivers. I have a similar setup except for the graphics card and my OS is just the 64 bit standard addition. However I cannot get the sound to work. Thanks.

Hi,
download the drivers from Analog_Device_SoundMAX_6.10.02.6585.exe for the Win 7 64bit edition and run the setup.exe as usual . This worked for me and hope it will work for you too.

best wishes

It worked! Thanks Inwell. I've spent days on this trying several drivers from various sites and the SoundMAX setup would always complain about how it can't install for the hardware.

Now I've just got to come up with a good excuse for the missus when the PCI soundcard drops through the door in the next couple of days:eek:( ordered it last night in frustration ). Unless someone can tell me the sound quality will be appreciably better ( it an ASUS Sonar DG 5.1, speakers are Logitech X-230 2.1 setup ), it will have to go back.
