Solved No Audio in TuneIn or iHeartRadio Apps...works elsewhere

I have searched everywhere for an answer to this...

I have the latest Realtek HD Audio drivers installed (2.70) on a Windows 8 Pro PC. I have all other Audio devices disabled and the audio works great with every program/app I have (XBMC, MS Media Center, Music App, Internet Explorer, etc.).

My issue is that I cannot get any audio with TuneIn or iHeartRadio. When I go to 'devices' in the setting screen it says that no devices are available...so I cannot select another audio source (though there should not be one since they are all deactivated).

Can ANYONE confirm that these two apps work on their machine? If so, did you have to do anything special to make it work?

Welcome to Eight Forums, ck26119. Good to have you. :)

I don't have these loaded, just to let you know. This is a stumper. Two apps without audio when all else works.

We can assume that it is the apps or programs. Are these Store apps or legacy programs?

It would be helpful to all if you would please fill out your system specs in your profile.

Iheart works fine for me. You might want to check Control Panel/Sound and insure that Speakers is set at default. I had updated the Realtek drivers and then had issues..only to discover that the default had been changed to something else.

Thank you, HippsieGypsie! Glad to be here! I just did a fresh install of Win 8 on my HTPC (was running Win 7). Everything runs great...with the exception of those two apps. As a matter of fact, I installed some foreign radio App after my post and it worked great (I couldn't understand a word, but I had audio).

Every App that I have is downloaded/installed from the MS Store. This may be more 'app' specific than my sound card/driver...as I am not having issues anywhere else.

I am running Win 8 Pro 64 bit
Intel Core2Quad 2.83 GHz
8 GB of DDR3 RAM
2.5TB of storage with a 4TB NAS
EVGA 132-CK-NF79-TR LGA 775 Nvidia nForce 790i Ultra SLI Motherboard (using the HD Audio port)
HD 4670 iSilence 4 1GB DDR3 Video Card
WinTV HVR-1800 for over the airTV

I have the HD Audio chosen...it allows me to choose the 'Speakers' option, but it says that nothing in connected. So I disabled all of my other options to try to single out the issue...I have been in every setting that I can dream of (including some that I never knew about) today...google is a great thing, but very frustrating when you can't find the solution.

LOL! Learn the language of the foreign radio app? :D Sorry, couldn't help myself!

If everything else works fine, then it's got to be the apps, but weird that both don't work. The foreign radio app was through the store as well? Do things play through IE10 desktop version? What I'm getting at is that 8 has a Modern (Metro and Store apps) side and a Win32 legacy program via the desktop portal side. Not that savvy, but I wonder if that makes a difference.

Do the apps have sound settings in them?

The only thing I can think of is to try uninstalling and reinstalling the apps.

Time to dust off the Rosetta Stone package!!!

I am going to try to reinstall them...it is just too odd that they do not work. They are both on the 'Metro' side of Windows...and audio works in literally every other part of the system (the apps do not have a sound setting). Oh well...i can just go to the website if i really wanted to...it works fine from there. :)

Thank you all for your help!!!

You're welcome. I wrote a app company because of problems early on in RP. They wrote me back asking for info so they could fix it, which eventually they did. You may want to do the same. We have to remember that these apps are in their infancy. Good luck to you and Happy Holidays! :)

Hi there

Tunein radio works fine for me -- I play it on a Bluetooth speaker device set -- no prob whatsoever with this application. I haven't tried iHeart radio application.

Sometimes Bluetooth drops out if I'm using a mobile phone near the speaker but 99% of the time it's fine.

Problem could be your Internet connection might be too slow so the application is always "Re-bufferring" the signal so no sound ever gets to the soundcard.

The PC I'm using for this application is connected via LAN rather than WiFi.

Note I NEVER use the IE 10 Metro version --just the "Bog standard" desktop IE10 --so it could also be a "Metro" problem.

Cheers
jimbo

Thank you, Jimbo45. After trying everything under the sun, I opted to reformat my hdd and reinstall Windows. :) Now I actually know what I am doing, so I am going to avoid any programs that I installed by mistake last time.

I am connected to my LAN and my internet is 2.0 MB/s down/1.5 MB/s up...I find it hard to believe that it is not fast enough to buffer music. :) That said, I have no issues with anything else...I have Sunday Ticket Max, Slingbox, etc. that all runs fine.

I will see what happens after my fresh installation...if this doesn't work...I am going to contact the developers to see if there is something that I am missing.

Thanks again for all of your feedback. I was about to revert back to Win 7, but after all of my 'playing' around...I am starting to like Win8. My favorite feature...just type what you are looking for and the search pops up (in the Metro Start).

FOUND THE PROBLEM!!! After 3 fresh installs...more reboots than I can count...and about 1000 'google' searches...I figured out it was the ATI Driver. I had to install the Catalyst Control Center to correct the overscan...this is what I did. Installed the entire CCC package, including the driver, from AMD. Corrected the overscan and updated the driver back to the Windows driver. Boom...worked!!!

A side note, different apps on my system can play thru different devices at the same time. At least the system thinks so. Maybe I need to update my drivers too.

My meaning is when I pull up the Volume Mixer, one device is linked to certain applications, while another device is linked to others. I guess I haven't ever had a system that used multiple playback devices, so maybe that's why it's new to me. Anyway, it would be nice to be able to change those "links" at will.

BTW, mine was also a driver issue. Must have had an auto-update at one point overwrite the originals that were working okay.

Ok. I see what you mean. It is different now. I learned something. :)

Now for updates. I always configure updates to "Download and let me choose". This way I know what's going on. Downloads aren't always necessarily needed or correct.

It's good that you figured things out! Again, I learned something.
