Well, that's interesting. I would hope for motherboards using Intel chipsets at least, Windows 8 is like Windows 7 and doesn't require a third party driver for audio, nor will it particularly benefit from one, and I would avoid installing one unless I needed something specific that only it can provide. (I had a bad experience with a VIA driver about 3 years ago, and 3rd party drivers bring nothing to the table for me as I just run optical to my AVR.)
