Just as the title says. I upgraded the skydrive and I am planing to put all my documents there. Do i need to download skydrive to be able to sync my documents or does the metro app is enough?

This is like having 2 "environments" or something like that. Where metro apps are completely separate?

The Metro app is like a webapp. If you want the folder to be installed you have to download SkyDrive from Microsoft.

The SkyDrive app can be used to upload files using the metro file picker UI. The SkyDrive for Windows app allows for better control of folders and such. Ideally though, I find SkyDrive to be excellent when you're doing the same work on two different PCs. It's also used though to back up files as well, although you can't really sync, for example, your documents library and have different changes sync up. The SkyDrive for Windows app uses its own user folder.

I had a look at that Windows Skydrive thing.

I stopped it as it began downloading gigs of stuff I had already uploaded.

SDExplorer suits me better.

The free (base) version does the basic job well. Download the latest version | SDExplorer

Yes, that has always been a complaint of mine with skydrive. There is also no deleted items retention (so if you accidentally delete something, yeah, it's gone) and there is no bandwidth control. So, if you have lots to upload, it will suck up all of your bandwidth while it does it.

So skydrive is NOT like dropbox? doesn't work like that. I thought it did. I am going to try sdexplorer and see.

If you are using android you may try SanDisk memory zone and foldersync apps

Skydrive "IS" like Dropbox if you install the Windows app. You install it, it creates a folder and anything you put in that folder gets synchornized with your cloud storage. Unlike dropbox, Skydrive does not have 1). deleted file recovery 2). bandwidth throttling. 3). Selective folder sync 4). Linux client.

Speaking of SkyDrive, there's a screenshot of development code for SkyDrive that has a Recycle bin to it.

Yes, MS has been saying "coming soon" for awhile now. I'm looking forward to that, for sure.

Yes... honestly I am liking windows 8. I really enjoy the "mobile" features that were really needed. You can receive notifications and rubbish. All that is left is for laptops to come with GPS + 3G antennas. That would be killer :)

I like the notifications and the simplicity of programs that open right away w/o splash screens.

I like ALL the new mouse gestures. Makes the mouse a lot more useful than before and a lot less clicks for stuff...

Still can't decide the fact that I don't have a start menu, although I enabled quick launch, all apps are hard to find or I have to use file manager to find them once they have been installed.

How are the apps difficult to find for you?

There's a good tip I just read for SkyDrive. You can put your Desktop's location in SkyDrive if you tend to put files that are a work in progress on it. Also, make a Documents, Pictures, or whatever folder and put that SkyDrive folder into that Documents, Pictures, or whatever Library. That is handy.

Hooray, I missed this somehow, but Microsoft updated Skydrive and it's now got a recycle bin to protect against those accidental mistakes.

Now, just need to get
1). bandwidth throttle
2). selective folder sync
3). ability to upload folders via the webpage.
