Acronis True Image Home 2012 not working with Windows 8 RTM 64bit

Tried to install Acronis in the RTM 64 bit version of Windows 8 and got an error message that it was not compatible with Windows 8.
The same version worked with the Release preview and on checking with Acronis Support they say it will not work with Eight and they are working on a solution.
They should have had something working bye now as they have had a lot of time to develop something.
I am very upset that I paid for something that does not work and will have to go to the free Macrium backup software so that I can get an Image of my new install

    Same thing happened to Paragon.

Suddenly , RTM refuses to allow the 12 series to install.

They have a new one in the offing - beta - give it a try.

Image Backup for Windows 8 - Download

It is very simple, but astonishingly fast:

It is also the only one that supports REFS, as well as ext2,ext3,ext4,HFS, ETC

Ughh....I'm probably going to have to upgrade my Acronis 2010 then if I ever go to Windows 8, or switch products. Oh well, got my $23.99 out of Acronis, that is for sure.

I did the same as Centurion. There is not a great advantage in actually installing Acronis on the computer, in any event.

    By installing Acronis you can
1). Have scheduled or regular backups without rebooting
2). Can utilize the Try and Decide feature (which is 1 thing I really like about Acronis)
3). You can mount a previous image and simply restore a file or folder.

How can you be very upset that something that was not designed for Windows 8 doesn't yet work for Windows 8?

However, if you use the Acronis boot media, you can still image your new install.

    Hi there
ATI 11 still working fine -- use it daily. I did trick it though to avoid the compatability issue.

(Using Real - TechNet Windows 8 Enterprise x-64).

Rename the TrueImage.exe to TImage.Exe and pin THIS to start menu and it works fine.
(You need to pin this one directly to avoid calling TrueImageLauncher.exe which still looks for the original name of TrueImage). !!

I renamed the exe file to something else so it works fine -- but TEST if you do this yourself.

I find I'll only upgrade backup software when it won't support new devices like say e-Sata.

I think in any case using the latest version of backup software on a version of Windows that hasn't been officially release yet could be asking for trouble.

Another solution is to use the STAND ALONE bootable media to backup / restore until Acronis fixes this. Since the stand alone version is based on a Linux system it will work without problems.

    Cheers

Hey Jumbo, I haven't completed the install yet, but following your directions, its already starting. You think its just a simple line of code doing a windows version check & by running it from the start menu, it might skip that check?

I've just used Acronis 2010 Home by booting off the CD and doing the imaging this way and it's getting my basic images done. Good news is that it works for server products as well this way and handles the drives where I do run a dual boot (Windows 8/server2012).
