I have installed and re-installed Paint Shop Pro 7 on this system several times (having had to re-instal and/or repair the OS).

After the lastest repair, Paint Shop Pro doesn' work. The system telling me that "This app sic can't run on your PC".

I assume that an update to Windows has caused this - or not?

Whatever, how can I get it to run on this system again? Surely if it worked before it should be possible for it to work again?

Thank you Brink.

I have tried the Troubleshoot Compatibility route. The program opens when I click its icon, and I can open a jpg file via the program's File menu, but Clicking directly on a jpg file brings up the message I reported.

I haven't yet examined all the information in that link - something which I will do after posting this.

Brink,

Options one and two didn't solve the problem. I don't much like the idea of messing about with the registry. so I have, at least for now, skipped option three.

I tried uninstalling and re-installing the program. Instead of using autorun I opened the disc, right clicked on the exe file, and selected Run as Administrator. No difference I'm afraid.

I have tried the suggestions in both the links in your post #4 without success.

It baffles me that I have installed the program several times before without a problem.

Did you try installing it using compatibility mode on the setup file to see if that may work?

I clicked on the exe file's Properties, then checked Run ... in compatibility mode for XP Service Pack 3, and Run ..., as an administrator, then Apply and OK.

I did that. The application opens from its icon.

When clicking on a jpg file the first thing which happens is a message saying "There was a problem while sending the command to the program", and the program then opens - but it doesn't display the file.

Then, on closing the program I get another message, the header of which is DDE Server Window: psp.exe - Application error and its window says The instruction at 0x61a9b69c referenced memory 0x00000011. The memory could not be read.
Click on OK to terminate the program.

Time to uninstall it then, and try something else. :(

Since no one else mentioned your avatar, I will note that it is flashing SOS in Morse code.

Yes, I use it on other forums too. For your interest: The international distress signal isn't, never was, and was never meant to be, "sos" or any other combination of letters or digits. It is a single Morse character, just as any letter, digit or punctuation character.

Brink, I have again uninstalled Paint Shop Pro and re-installed it via the right click on its exe file etc. No difference.

I will look to see if any other forum looks promising.

I am aware of the distinction. I was an Aircraft Radio Operator in WW2 and the Korean War and, on two occasions, had to use the signal. When written, the SOS is overscored indicating it is to be sent as a single character. I have also been an Amateur Radio Operator for 55 years and exclusively use Morse Code in my communications.

Good for you.

Sorry to hijack the thread, but I've been following this thread to see if it was ever resolved.

I too am an old morse code radio operator, from the US Air Force and was an instructor in the Radio Operator school at Keesler AFB, Mississippi.
I'm also an ex-ham radio operator. I've had several call signs including ZD8JES when I worked at the tracking stations on Ascension Island.

I'm the one that should apologize for hijacking, fireberd! And, BTW, I also was Instructor at Scott Field, Illinois for a while where I had gone for Radio Operator Mechanics school in mid-forties.

No apologies necessary (except perhaps to any moderators.)

There are obviously thousands of people who have similar experience and it is inevitable that some will be members/contributors to many forums.

Except for a special Radio section on a Merchant Navy forum I know of no other site which caters for ex professional operators.
I'm sure that many of us would have interesting/amusing anecdotes to share.

After uninstalling again, I ran JV16's Software and leftovers removal tool. I found two PSP items which I removed.
Installed it again with no deference to compatibility or anything else - just a straight installation.

It now works correctly

Thank you for all the suggestions.
